Artist Statement

"My intent as an artist is to give shape, color and form to emotions, thoughts and life experiences. It is as simple and as difficult as that! Rather than forcing the work down a preconceived path, I allow the work to direct me instead. I rely heavily on intuition and chance in order to achieve this. For me, painting is a meditative experience. It is about being in the moment, actively listening and indulging my creative urges.
I aim to create work that is honest and work that inspires. I remember the first time I saw an original painting by Salvador Dali in person. I was stupefied. I scarcely remember breathing. I felt the world around me come to a complete and abrupt stop. My eyes filled with tears. I was face to face with truth, beauty and genius. Art has the power to do this. If I can create an emotional response in the viewer, even in the smallest sense, I have succeeded."
