Jenny Baker Artist Biography
Since grade school, Jenny has loved to draw and paint, but didn’t feel she was particularly good at it. Jenny admired any artist or budding artist and their work, always wishing she could pick up a brush and make it do what others could.
Jenny began raising her family, always knowing that she would like to take art lessons someday. She took the beginning art class that was offered in her town 3 different times, just so that she could get a taste. Then tragedy struck. She lost the use of her fingers and hands due to an arthritic condition. She determined that if specialists were able to help her regain the use of her hands to any degree, she would have a paint brush in them. Through medication, she has gained the use of her hands and true to her promise to herself, especially since moving to Calgary 15 years ago, has taken every art class that has been available to her.
Jenny has also taught for the last 12 years. A friend tricked her into teaching the first class and because of the joy of teaching and sharing what she is learning, she has met many wonderful friends. She has taught in various studios around the city. She has done some travel teaching and even taken art classes to senior’s centers here in Calgary.
Jenny has taught pen and ink (with and without oil rouging); mixed media/altered art; Folk and Bavarian art and acrylic fine art painting with an emphasis on landscapes.
She has been in various art shows for the last 5 years and has seen a fair amount of success. She belongs to the “Applaud the Arts” group of artists.
Her real love is landscape painting, but since she loves all mediums, she will try anything that is even remotely creative!!
She generally paints on canvas, but has been known to paint on anyone’s furniture that will let her!! She has done a fair amount of wood pieces as well.
She is happiest when she has a pen, pencil, art brush or grandchild in her hands.
