Contemporary Abstract Art with Michelle Hoogveld - 8 Week Course

 

This is a playful abstract class with an emphasis on the creative process and experimentation. Students will progressively learn various techniques of contemporary abstract painting using layering, removal, staining, collage, mixed media, photo transfers and much more. You will learn how to achieve contrast, line, depth, texture & interest in your works of art. Students will be using liquid and heavy body acrylics, as well as acrylic mediums & gels, inks, found objects and collage elements.

*Please note there is no class on February 20th, 2012 for Family Day*

Supply List

Brushes/tools:

-       A variety of small, medium and large brushes. I prefer the brand Ruby Satin in a variety of sizes in both Angular and Filbert.

-       Palette knifes in small, medium and large. I prefer Liquitex knifes

Palette:

-          Disposable palette pads (prefer at least 12'' x 16'') plexi-glass or own palette works great too!

Mediums:

-          Gloss medium/varnish

-          Texturing mediums (optional)

Canvas:

-          1 Large Deep profile Canvas in 36x36” or larger (You may work on more than 1 painting if preferred).

Paints:

-          Black, White, and 3-4 colors of your choice. I prefer Basics Acrylics, Golden, or System 3.

-          2 - 3 Acrylic Inks in a variety of colors (My favorites are colors that have a pearl shimmer to them).

Mixed Media (Optional supplies):

-          A variety of your own photos

-          Unique paper or tissue paper with

-          Unique paper or tissue paper with interesting designs or texture

-          Cutouts of text or images from magazines or books

-          Quotes

-          Maps

-          Music Notes

-          Plastic Alphabet Stencils

-          Mailing Stamps

-          Old Letters or journal entries

-          Buttons, Beads, String

-          Tags and Labels

-          Bottle Caps

-          Metal scraps, washers, nails, etc.

-          Any found object that you think would add an interesting element to your piece.

CSA Recommends You Bring

Pencils, Eraser, Scissors, Pencil Sharpener, Ruler, Paper towel roll, 
Soap (if you use it to clean your brushes)
